What does Old Smiddy Strachur Museum Society do?
The charity was set up to maintain Strachur Smiddy as a living museum where people can see and learn blacksmithing skills in a traditional setting., To achieve that we own the Smiddy which was originally set up in the 18th century. We maintain the building and open it as a museum where visitors can watch a blacksmith at work. Our regular blacksmith has trained others , and we encourage enthusiasts to practice and develop their metal working skills on days when the Smiddy is not open to visitors. In this way we hope to develop and sustain blacksmith's skills into the future.
